Abstract
This study aims to measure the effect of inflation on economic growth in Algeria using a time series from 1980 to 2016. This is done using the nonlinear model of the instantaneous transition threshold (TR), and depending on methodology of Khan and Senhadji (2001) in estimating this model. The study found a statistical significance for the non-linear model between inflation and economic growth at 6.5% as an inflation threshold, where the strong negative impact on economic growth starts if inflation exceeds this rate. On the other hand, economic growth will not deteriorate as long as inflation is below the level of 6.5%, allowing the monetary authorities ; especially the central bank to apply a monetary policy aims at reducing inflation rates and making them below the level of estimated threshold In order to maintain economic stability in Algeria.
